DWITT got on a plane a few days ago headed to Zurich. If you’re over yonder, you can catch him as a part of the “Röckaholics: Rock Poster Art” show along with Justin ‘Angryblue’ Kamerer and Jeral Tidwell. The show is comprised of not only rock posters and art prints, but also original ink drawings and other pieces from their private collections. Apparently DWITT has to go halfway around the world to bare his soul. Find more about the show here: : http://www.juxtapoz.com/Current/craola-talks-to-us-about-jeral-tidwells-rockaholics

He’s also working on a poster for Chuck Palahnuik’s new book coming out in May.

Keep up with DWITT here: www.dwitt.com. It’s de-wittful.

SECOND STOP: LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

You might remember our interview with Adam Turman in last month’s installment of news. Well, turns out he’s sticking with his Road Trip series, and has unleashed stop number 2: Las Vegas, Nevada (limited edition of 50 prints, signed/numbered/date 4-color, 18×24).

Turman’s also making a few appearances in the area. For more info on his upcoming solo show, as well as his upcoming appearances at the Independent Bar, Craftstravaganza, and Art-a-Whirl, check out his webplace: www.adamturman.com. It’s lext nevel.

A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT FEBRUARY

We asked Punchgut and With Remote to let us in on their mindset here in the wasteland of February. Their answers were, revealing. Well, entertaining.

Q: True or False: February is the hardest month to get through.

Punchgut: True Story. My snow blower broke down this year, and I thought shoveling would help me stay in shape over the winter. So I did not fix it. Now I am saving up for a new snow blower and an electric wheelchair to ride behind it for next year.

With Remote: It’s getting a little old.

Q: Watching the Olympics?

WR: I’m not really watching the Olympics this time around due to timing really. I’m usually playing with my boy after work when they start airing the Olympics in the evening, so I don’t really get time to watch. I usually catch the highlights on the news before heading off to work.

P: No, but I am cheering for whichever country “Nickelback” is not from.

Q: According to my calender, it’s going to be March soon. Got anything going on in March?

P: Gallery 1988 & OMG Posters is having a “Greatest Moments in Sports History” show I am included in on March 4-26. I do not follow sports much so I did a piece about fishing titled “Fishes and Me.” Stick with what you know, right? Looking forward to seeing the entire collection together and pieces from Tyler Stout, Guy Burwell, Zach Hobbs, Alan Hynes, Billy Perkins and Methane to name a few. 1988 really puts together great shows.

WR: I’m getting ready for Craftstravaganza later this spring, just working on producing what I can for that. March usually means at least another month of cold and snow in Bemidji. Once it warms up again and I can get out and print I’ll be producing some prints that I have designed this winter.

Q: What kind of stuff do you find yourself creating/drawing during the dead of winter?

P: I find winter increases my productivity: I am not distracted by fun. Its easy to get lost in your own little world (some would say madness). But mostly I’ve been piling up sketches for new prints, paintings and other random yummy stuff.

WR: I’m working on a second coloring book of “sqiggles” that I started this fall, which I should have done soon. I also have been tinkering with my website, making a few others, and leaning a lot about php and mysql.

Q: Anything else you want to talk about?

P: I need to print and draw more…there are so many excellent artists out there. Unfortunately their arms are not falling off in tragic helicopter accidents so i must keep on evolving. Also if anybody has any available spots on a Ghost Hunting trip, let me know. That looks fun and i want to wear some of those cool ass night vision googles. (Punchgut Studio)

WR: Nope, I guess that’s it, thanks! I generally post what I’m up to on Twitter @withremote.

ChuckU – ROBOZOOLOGY

Chuck U’s work makes us fall in love with the line again. Every artist uses it, but few are able to take the line and turn it into a drawing, nay work of art, that elevates the pen from a writing tool to a co-conspirator. If you’re not familiar with his work, or you need a kick in the pants to pick up drawing again, check out Chuck U’s Robozoology. It runs through January at Nicademus Art in St. Paul.

Death Metal

A sheep is a domesticated animal. The sheep man is a regular nine-to-fiver hoping to collect on a Christmas bonus as early as July. A goat is a curved-horned wildman that will eat anything. The goatman lives in a mountain, eats dead batteries and plays the kind of death metal that makes you want to take a shower before you flip the record from side A to B. The goatman doesn’t go to the dentist, he goes to the medieval weapons expo. The goatman doesn’t have a furnace, he lights his home with a viking funeral pyre. The goatman doesn’t pay taxes.
This homage comes from DWITT, an illustrator from Minnesota. Entitled “Death Metal,” it’s a 12.5″ x 19″ print on 100 lb. deep blue paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 50 for only $20 (+$5 shipping).

Get it here: Death Metal print by David Witt

Road Trip

Adam Turman’s latest project, “Road Trip,” is a state-themed print that will be released on the 11th of every month. Sounds interesting, but I’ve got a few questions for him.

Are these places you’ve been, or want to go?
Both. I’m sticking primarily with places I’ve been, and think are awesome.

How are you choosing the states?
Tell you, I’d have to kill you. Starting on the West Coast, and heading East.

Favorite road food:
A&W Rootbeer and Combos, any flavor.

Favorite road tunes:
AC/DC and Iron Maiden, and anything punk rock (old school Lookout Records stuff).

Favorite roadside stop:
Truck stops with those “fantasy knives” and pornos wrapped in black plastic, you know what I’m talking about.

The panopticon is the 18th century idea that Americans’ love of vistas and monuments is a way to collectively connect with each other over monuments. Do you think this project is a modern execution of that idea?
I’ll say sure! I like that idea. I also thought of it a little bit like those stickers you’d get when traveling through different states or national parks. My wife and I get a magnet from every state we visit as a reminder of our travels.

Get on with it here: AdamTurman.com

Dice Houses

Horrible ways to pass the time: daytime tv, reading Ayn Rand, solitary confinement. Great ways to pass the time: playing board games, competing against strangers, ice fishing. Whether you agree with these lists or not (what’s up, fellow Ayn Rand haters?) you’ll still have a good time at the dIcehouses, part of the Art Shanty 2010 project. Check it out online here: diceshouses.blogspot.com, then check it out in person at Medicine Lake.
